Twilight Language
On palm leaves, written with a black dye probably made from kaajalataa or other regional plants in a language of the twilight were found the earliest examples of Bengali or Bangla poetry. These poems, about 47 padas (verses) known as Charyaapada, were in all probability written during 9th-12th century C.E by a generation of Buddhist mystic poets. The original palm-leaf manuscripts were discovered by Bengali scholar Haraprasad Shastri a full century back in 1907. For more details, click
