With the current pace of globalization, it is absolutely necessary to be familiar with other languages and cultures. Bengali is the seventh most spoken language in the world. Yet, most of the world is unaware of the richness and diversity of Bengali Literature and culture. Rabindranath Tagore from Kolkata, India, was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in literature in 1913.
There are many celebrated writers in the Bengali diaspora e.g. Jhumpa Lahiri, Amitav Ghosh, Chitra Banerjee, Monica Ali to name just a few.
We, at Bengali Literature Goes Global (BLGG), a team of enthusiastic and dedicated individuals, are translating selected Bengali short stories and poems into English to bring the treasure trove of Bengali literature to our global readers.
